Basketball is a sport that favors athletes who are strong and explosive. From the athletic stance to jumping to block a shot or shoot over a defender rushing towards you requires you to elevate as high as possible as quickly as possible to win the play for your team.
Olympic lifting is a great way train your body to explode into triple extension (ankle,hip, and knee)
Olympic lift variation: Power Jerk variation with feet remaining connected to the platform (Push Jerk)
Purpose: Train explosiveness going into triple extension at the hip, knee, and ankle joints and strengthen abdominal and back muscles isometrically
Primary coaching points:
• Feet hip width apart, hands slightly outside of shoulders, and elbows high
• Dip straight down to quarter squat and rapidly stand up while straightening the elbows and moving the bar overhead
• Land with weight in middle of the feet, knees slight flexed and torso upright
• Stand up
